and most of them showed you the kind of face as if their relatives/parents passed away. it's true!

they are not service-minded, lazy, took it for granted.

reminded me of my earlier life working in saberkas.

of the hundreds and hundreds of hardisk i tested. 90% of the hardisk I tested had absolutely no problem maybe some pesky virus infected their OS. 5% hardisk were deliberately damaged. 4% were due to poor/wrong installation and the remaining 1% were genuinely dead hardisk.

it is true that there are really bunch of sick customers who keep coming back and take us for granted that we will replace every hardisk reported faulty.

one particular customer claimed more than 10 replacement hardisks. everytime he said the hardisk were not detected after a few days of use. despite replacing him with a new one each time, he bring it back to me again after a few days. when i tried to troubleshoot, i can't duplicate his problem. it always boot up fine. he can't even replicate the same problem in my shop.

i only make a few tenner for each hardisk i sell, the profit margin is razor thin, sometime as little as RM 10 or RM 20. with all these customers keep coming back, i am dead sick and tired. actually, i won't blame those technician. they probably had the same problem as i had.

Har...??? stormpike I think you should have highlighted it to your bos. If this has been going on since 10 years ago, then it has become a culture to give poor customer service at saberkas.
Looks like the system did not improve. & hopefully the virus is only contained to one pc shop.

resuree... actually my boss knew it all the time. we normally swap a new hardisk from our inventory whenever a customer come back reporting they had a faulty hardisk. up to a point, the inventory ran low. not because we have sold them all out but because too many hardisk been used for replacement. we then started to look into each claim and found 99% of those have nothing to do with faulty hardisk. Virus infected, poor installation, partition wiped out, etc.... these are software related not hardware related. Give it a good format and the hardisk is usable again.

sad but it is true, a lot of customers are very rude. they expect that vendors like us provide them warranty against virus infection while they go round doggy website download pron.

as a person who works as a technical support for a large company with over 1,000 staff. I have to testify stormpike's words.

80% of the problems are classified as what we called "user problem".

but I encountered polite and patient staff / customers compared to stormpike. So life wasn't that bad for me.

Which shop you working at?
I recall back my HDD face the same problem too, cannot be detected.
I keep on sending back within a week and waited 2 months for them to replace me a new one.
Until they fed up, and gave me 200 GB WD HDD instead of my 250 GB Samsung HDD.

Indeed I second that.. As for me, in most cases are users problem more than technical faults
