I like to emphasize on proper highway from Kuching to Miri. My father is now age 76, he has been driving thru those bumpy road during his younger time with us every festive seasons and during this awful journey during my childhood time, I felt so sorry for my poor father, he got so tired and sometimes drained out after each trip. We were poor during that time and couldnt afford air ticket for the 4 of us. At every journey I prayed while looking out the car window hoping one day soon we will have a proper highway. And I am sure even today lots of children n elders who is now going thru what I been thru is wishing the same. Its been 31 years now...I was only 6 then, sad but is true..

They are all fine now, no more gravel roads as far as my last trip is concerned.

With the now completed Upper Lanang Bridge in Sibu, we will be expecting to have a better route connecting from Kuching-Sibu-Miri.

Don't expect an expressway by pass to happen anytime soon. It is too expensive and the distance covered is too far, given the poor geographical location of Sibu, this idea will be much pointless.

With government fundings now concentrating on boosting the 'environmental' look of Kuching, Miri and Sibu, the upgrading of the highway will be on the bottom list of the agenda, so let us enjoy the currently-fine-for-now tarmac road which is starting to crack again unfortunately, and a single lane 'highway', and pray for a safer journey.

But I can see a brigther future though, plans of widening have already been taking place for the past decades along the stretch between Sri Aman and Sarikei, now featuring double lanes and super flat surface-for-now, it is a far improvement from the old gravel surface. That stretch alone took them a decade to finish, plus the currently finished double lane highway from Kuching to Serian.

Give the government another 5 decade or so, then perhaps we can have a proper double lane highway from Kuching to Miri.

Is good to hear! But who has been sleeping all these years??? huh? perhaps we are?
An express highway bypass is what we need and we deserve to enjoy what we have contributed to the state. dont we? perhaps not??
Isn't it for us? the beautiful culture people of sarawak with the mixer of poor n rich on a safer road to see n enjoy and learn in every town of what we have? isnt there will be increasing of trade industries with shorter time period of journey and increasing tourism which mean more resources?
How many decade more? perhaps if I do reach 76 and still hoping and perhaps not..:)

I actually drove to Miri from Kuching and back in June. The roads were just O.K. A few areas were very nice but some were awful. Several sections were under construction or maintenance so perhaps they were trying to fix some problems. In these areas the road turned to gravel with very little warning so if they aren’t done yet be careful. We had a few nasty surprises since we were driving at night and they don’t post warning signs for the construction.

Several areas are also quite bumpy; it seems as if the roadbed wasn’t properly prepared before paving. A particularly bad section was on a stretch of very nice looking 4 lane road before you get to Miri. I felt as if I was on a boat in a very wavy ocean. There are also too few passing zones, they need to work on making more sections 3 or 4 lanes. They don’t have to make the whole road that way but perhaps a good passing section every 10 miles or so.

It is good to hear that you are concerned with this as much as I do, with resulted in my opinions of what is actually happening, perhaps not the rest of the people who are the problem themselves who do not care at all with the 'I-dont-know-and-I-dont-want-to-know-as-long-as-we-have-pork-to-eat -that-is-all-I-care-about attitude how far can we go?

Again, this issue is seriously concerning the political side of the state. I've said many many many times, with the corruption and the dillusion going on in our government, and me getting busted by the webmaster and other 'intelligent' people who regard me as 'he-thinks-he-knows-everything', we can never raise any awareness of what we have been lacking behind.

What can you do? What can I do? Move out of the stupid country is my advise. Things can never grow with such government and such people. Development plans shrinks due to insufficient funding because a portion went lost or somewhere deep inside the pockets, how can things ever get done properly?

When things are brought to attention, we are told to shut up and stop complaining and whinging and that our state is far better off at its current state.

Have to pay the price for development ka? how much need? few millions to make a good road? If this highway is successfully implemented, many satelite town will also sprout along the highway. property in those mangroove (lanpa) area will rise. end up property in Kuching, Sibu & Miri will drop value, because people will have more choice to live near a beach or fishing village comfortably. I think our government know this and very scared to make a hi-way. Few million they also don't want to build la. so we have to make do with the current road for now. besides, if the population is scattered, how are they going to guaranteed victory in the election? it is not so easy to control if people live far away. even handphone also cannot reach. need to use back 011.

How much taxes and contributions have we put in? Millions to built a highway, ha..a problem? hummmm... sarawakian been criticize people living on tree top? This our land where we called HOME. Sadly, cant see n awareness of what we have been lacking behind.
Wont be nice to have choice living in the rural and city? Besides that, election in victory will not be a problem at all when proper link roads are built to excess this means more business on tele network, etc. Our government will be loved and remembered for history. Prices on Houses will not be affected much if is in within the cities. Is all about Location! Location! ............ Bing!!!!! there u go another Bonus to consider.

Yum yum, I have tried what you are doing right now, it does not work. Just move on to live with what you have, or you can leave the country, just as what I doing right now, and hopefully one day I can migrate my entire family over here to settle down.

Your discussion will not get anywhere, it will not get you the expressway you dream of, it will not get the attention of the people in Sarawak and in Malaysia particularly, it will get you nothing and nowhere. Trust me.

See the number of people participating in this thread? barely only 3 people who actively discussed about what is actually that we are looking for, the rest? the are more interested in 'developments of Kuching' , new malls, new construction within Kuching, new lifestyle and etc. Nobody cares about your fooking road because they only want to see what they want to see, high rise buildings, new buildings, new malls, new construction and that is it.

Like I mentioned earlier, this has more to do with the political side than any other thing, if Sarawakian does not choose the right people to manage the state, we will always be lacking behind when we are supposed to be heading the right direction long time ago.

I am not saying who is better, I just hope the corruption level of the country will be scrapped off by as much as possible. But who the heck cares about corruption anyway, as long as chinese gets the 'pork', the bumis are granted their super privileges, and you all got a house a car to live with, you wouldn't ask for more wont ya?

Too bad it has to come out, it does not involve only millions, but hundreds and thousands of billions and millions of man hours
