Edgar, your heart is right but you just can't seem to express yourself eloquently, that's all. Don't think that your concerns and frustrations are not shared by others. On the contrary, you'll be surprised how many of us are actually feeling the same as you, but merely suffering in silence, trying to figure out how to contribute our part to make Sarawak and Malaysia a better place for our children to live in in the not too distant future.

I've posted an article written by Sim Kwang Yang here which I feel articulates all our frustrations and deep longings much better than any of us could put in words. No one's proud of all the rampant corruption that's going on in our country, but it's our country after all and we have to deal with it. Some, like yourself, have chosen to migrate to greener pastures and that's fine. I myself have siblings who have chosen to migrate to Australia and other parts of the world for a better life but for those of us who choose to stay, there's a sense of despair in terms of just how much we can do, whether we debate it on online forums such as these or not. My point is, you're far from being alone in terms of your frustrations...

What is the point of living in a country where there is no freedom of speech? The webmaster even chicken out (sorry webmaster I've got to say this) everytime people like me bring out the criticism on our government, he even pleaded me not to have a say otherwise we will get into trouble for bringing up 'sensitive' issues.

I think you, as a licensed lawyer should know if what we do is right or against the law.

If bringing up sensitive issues for discussion on public online forum is deemed illegal, I would not be surprised that people stop expressing their concerns because of fear they would get into trouble.

If it is our right to do so, those who chicken out and keep shut when they obviously confessed that they have many things to say in them, are just, being useless?

Says it all

If they were to make it a toll road they could at least partially cover the costs of construction. Like many of you I hate toll roads, but if it’s the only way I would gladly pay to make the road from Kuching to Miri 4 lane. A proper highway would also boost the local economy and bring in more tax money for the government. Good infrastructure attracts new businesses and makes commerce much easier. It will also be a boom for the tourism industry by making interesting tourist spots more accessible. The people in small towns between Kuching and Miri will also benefit greatly. They will have better access to medical facilities, education, they can sell and buy things easier, they will get more tourist dollars, etc.

SUper !!! 100 percent agreed with new22003!!!

Now to Our Dear Goverment, at least partially contribution suggested on toll roads.

JUST IN CASE THIS PART IS MISLEADED HERE IS A
COPY I PASTE FROM new22003: A proper highway would also boost the local economy and bring in more tax money for the government.

My say includes: with all these also means crime decrease, for 1 eg: passengers can fly with peace of mind knowing that they will still have all thier belongings on arrival.

It is very much easier to say than done.

You know and I know that I have mentioned before, corruption is lurking everywhere inside our gonverment in probably almost every development decisions.

If you wish to see a private developer to build your dream highway and start setting up tolls booth as a profit return, it ain't that hard, anyone can do it.

But how is this going to happen when corruption takes place? Do we want to see another Bakun project failure that took them more than a decade and still will not finish for another decade?

The people involved in the government is putting their priority interest above the interest of the nation, and we are not doing anything to it. If you want to do something to it, yumyum, I suggest you better start joining the opposition party and plan a new comeback for the benefits of your children as well as yourself, for a brighter future.

No point making noises here, I have given up hope for our country. My siblings have given up their Malaysian citizenship because they hated the government of Malaysia so much, it wouldn't surprise me if I did. And we all live in a life much better a government that cares about their people, even when we are migrants, or even when we are an International Students. But do they give a heck about you? Well, what you are experiencing explains it all.

edgar, please stay on topic. if you're always gona bring up the obvious problems all of us see with our government, might as well not participate in this particular discussion, take it else where, and i guess you've started another topic on that. i agree that our country is run by a troubled government, corruption in every corne as u say. heck, everyone knows it. and yes, we know we dont have that power to stop what we don't like to see, but thats how it is. we all pray and hope that one day it'll all change, but until then, those of us who don't have the choice to live or move else where have just got to put up with it, however much we disagree. i know you have good intentions, and u try to make us all realize the problems we face, and how bitching on this forum won't help. but it is a forum, we can discuss what we like or what we don't like. although it won't change the state of our country, some of us might hope it will. lol!! who knows, certain people might stumble upon this site, it sorta voices out the concerns of some of the citizens of our beloved kuching. then we might have done our part in letting our concerns known.
then again, ya'll can just discard what i've said here, i don't mind, at least i've tried to voice what i think about this topic....sorta.

so anyway, back on the topic. has anyone of you passed by a small town called saratok on the way to sri aman or sibu?? not sure if its still a 'small' town though, haha!! might plan a trip there end of this year with my dad. its where i was born, would love to see how its progressed!!

I have been staying in this topic in every postings I made, in concerns with the development of a proper highway system from Kch to Miri for the interest of the topic starter, expressing how it may not be possible, with the included reasons.

You however, have not done your part at all in regards to this topic, and what you asked for is totally irrelevant and way much worse than what I have to say, but I will answer that final part of the question as it is.

Saratok is in between Sri Aman and Sarikei route, closer to Sarikei, a very small small town, and is one of the town to see dusty gravel unfinished roads for the decade, when the government were trying to finish off the road, and now it is spotting a smooth tarmac surfaced road and access is made easier. It will take you at least 5 hours drive from Kuching to reach there via the route to Sibu, situated on your left with a simple road side intersection signpost.

i might not have stayed on topic for that particular reply. you say you have stayed on topic? just barely, maybe a few sentences to link with it, sure sure, then continue to ramble on about other things. so fine, even this reply now might be out of topic, you can go ahead and shoot me down again. way much worse huh? ok...
