I've got a couple of uncles in Sibu in their 50's and 60's videochatting, almost daily, on Skype and MSN Messenger with my father here for almost a couple years now...you shd hear these old chaps, loud and proud foochows...one of them is even discussing routers and dsls and networking with me..and he's a pastor. He's the one who kept on heckling me, for a lack of a better word, to install Skype for my father..so they can do vidchat and voip at same time. heh.

Based on what my uncle's said, broadband is expensive, PCs are somewhat expensive. The availability and range of quality peripherals are limited, and he usually shops either online or in Kuching.
Everything seems too jheng hu controlled.
For CAD$30 per month, u get 24/7 unlimited adsl connection(no dial up/dial in/ppoe etc..just instant plug-boot-use), 2 dyn. IPs, 3 email accts, a small webspace of 30mbs, 1.5mbs speed. Adsl modems are widely available, and can be bought and self installed for a even further discount. And competition is great. Cable modem service are competing with ADSL so prices are always dipping, or more features are added..wheee!
Don't get me wrong tho..I'm not into bragging..my policy is anything FREE is always good. Tho I'm not advocating piracy here..ahem *cough nervously*

How much does it cost in Kuching for..say.. a P4 3.0ghz processor? Just the processor, in RM$. And as well for AMD64, umm say 2800+ processor, and XP barton 2500+ processor? Just being curious that's all, for comparative prices. Who's your favourite puters and parts shop(s)?

I wouldn't say Kuching is top advanced when it comes to those. It just that things are more afforable for the people right now. For Pentium 4 2.4 and 2.8ghz, As for pentium 3.0ghz, I still haven't seen them in KL.

Here in Kuching, you can get a good set of pc which you are able to use broadband, play both online and desktop games. Now most likely all kids are at home play online games since most houses owns broadband. So you can see that, its affordable by the people.

I won't mention about the price of the comps and their parts. I would put in this range.

Home Use Pc: RM 2000-RM2500
(broadband, gaming, worksheet, graphics, programming)

For broadband, here its more known as Streamyx. Its cheap compare to 56kbps modem line. One month you pay RM66 for 512kb, RM88 for 1mb.

I still doubt people will buy online stuff here. Its popular and everyone knows about it but not much people are using it. Else this site will be doing it as well. Just that the market is not really open for it yet.

Everything is very convenient in Kuching and people don't see its neccessary for online shopping.

wow kan-tong with sarsi n gula melaka.. ha ha last time was as big as padungan yek~tze~mei tua paw!! when times travel till now it became as big as siaw~long~paw.. ha ha..

i remember the best kan-tong was along the stall next to capital=tun jugah(now)

but i know last time i always go to the open air market opposite Electra house there drink. "sarsi sien chow". dunno how to call it in english. Then also the Kolo mee there. very very nice.

the open air market and the electra house is still there. Electra house got renovated in the 90's and looks better now. Sadly the people hanging out there makes that place uncomforable for others.

Electra house.. Hmmm.. i missed the fountain with big seiko digital clock alot... real stupid lah why they wanted to remove that thing n left a empty place 4 for those "Good culture" lepaking there. i really missed that. last time i used to see ppl throwing coins into the fountain then make a wish.. so every month the workers were so hardworking to clean up d place ha ha.. n d bird-sai too..

I remember seeing the fountain and the clock as a small kid. I didn't think much of it at that time but now I wish they left it as it was.

another i can remember ahhhh... is the ice-cream apek, selling ice cream cone on bicycle, he hav a very very nice bell.

And belacan beehoon hawker stall in padungan, so as ang dao cheng luk beside Capital cinema before.

err which ice-cream apek? alot boh, which area? thin n tall or d plum one. Maybe they migrated to china to start their own business selling "kiam chai"
