About Carrefour in east m'sia, they are currently looking for suitable places to open their first hypermarket.

Yup, they've been looking around for some time already. Some negotiations are ongoing but details are sketchy.

isn't tesco going to open in Senadin Hypermall in miri as the first branch in borneo? not sure how true it is.. but miri now has a lot of hypermarkets... opening tesco there will definately kill e-mart, boulevard, servay. in my opinion, they should make 1st appearance in kch rathar than miri... ughhh miri also cannot kalah one, open also four points there near "retarded flyover" at puchong road

How many hypermarkets does Miri have actually? Haven't been there in ages, and okay, this is an interesting development.

Miri has massive land banks, and compared to Kuching, land prices there are considerably lower, with spending power not too far off from Kuching. So, Miri is the sandbox? It is, after all, next to Brunei.

Tesco and Carrefour would pose great competition, definately, and they want to expand further, considering the freeze on building any more new hypermarkets in West Malaysia. So, perhaps Miri would be first for Tesco, but Carrefour is still up for grabs by the other cities.

And on the subject of a Four Points by Sheraton in Miri, Baron Mango Tree is building it; his money, his plans, his project, but how will a 560 or so room hotel survive in Miri is for time to tell. 300-400 is alright, but 560 rooms?

miri has 2 boulevard hypermarkets, servay, emart... but the thing about miri is everytime there is new hypermarket opens, the old ones usually slow down or even worst the closed thier door.

hotels in miri only full during certain months where there are festivals going on. during weekends the bruneians usually stay in a budget hotels, not so much at parkcity, marriott, imperial. so i guess BMT is taking his chances. four points miri is not far from dynasty, and that area is quite dangerous at nights with robberies and all.

one more thing is the infrastucture in miri. they have 2 flyovers while thier traffic jam is ain't bad like kch. some areas in kch desperately needs flyover, traffic congestion in kch getting worst by the day..

good if they open in kch... more choice to buy things... but one thing i did notice after buying things from boulevard hypermarkets and some other hypermarkets (choice supermall) - boulevard is more expensive....
