Yeap, I agree with webbie there. Even KL Sentral isn't located in KL's CBD. It's quite a distance from KLCC. Although, of course that is no help to the traffic around Brickfields which is as jammed as ever.

But 6 1/2 mile for Kuching is still a good location to avoid the traffic woes. Even the current bus terminal location at 4th mile is a pain to get to considering the traffic build-up in that area thanks to Boulevard.

Bandaraya Melaka have it's own Melaka Sentral...maybe they want to standardized the name to end with Sentral for every city.

Well, the RM55 million is in comparison to RM1.5 billion for an airport, or RM1.5 billion for an 'integrated' transit system.

While it may be the intention to standardize the name of integrated transport systems with the name 'Sentral' it does somehow stifle creativity, don't you think?

Besides, most 'Central' railway/bus stations around the world aren't even 'central' in all aspects. London's St Pancras is a distance away from the City of London, Sydney's Central Station is at the southern tip of the city-proper away from the CBD, and of course, KL Sentral, located in Brickfields, nearer to Bangsar and Damansara than KL's CBD.

In my opinion, the concept is good, now what left is: are they gonna improve the city's bus system (and for heaven's sake buy new buses), directing most buses from the Sentral towards other areas of the city, or just let it be as it is, and Sentral is no more than another "bus station" like the then General Post Office?

There is nothing wrong with standardizing the name sentral to every city. That way, most visitors to the cities in Malaysia will know where to go to for a centralized transport hub.

10-20 years after the central is completed, the place maybe busy enough to become a new CBD.

12k visitors per day? hmmmm..... Consider the capabilities of each individual to spend time on that? Providing that they don't have to work and slack around? arg arg arg. Unless we have what we called a definite quantity of tourist perhaps that would be a different story.

Mocha : Malaysia is a bit too concise of words and phrases or sentences. They don't really care much of the international standard use of languages / words and that's why they'd rather maximize their language sentral than CENTRAL because you know I know....
