In my opinion, it doen't matter if Sarawak is a nation or a state. As long as the citizen uphold the the right altitude by support a government which treat every race, sex and age equally, transparent and competitive.
Malaysia is progressing towards that direction but still has much to catch up with. I hope that the people who place their interest aove the nation interest will be phase out in the next election. It will be near impossible for Sarawak to gain independence as the security of the state is provided by the federal government. In addtion, if the wrong people leads the country after independence, Sarawak will go a few steps backward. The oil and gas reserve in offshore Sarawak is near depletion. Forest had been logged. Sarawak is neither competitive in labour intensive industry nor has practical experience in high technology industry. How this new nation will survive economically after independence is a doubt.

Hey there, the malays here are richer than u expected. One malay I knew.. he could cover his mortgage by renting out his HDB via tenants, for each room @ S$500-600, image there's 4-5 rooms per unit. Anyway the government of SGP will subsidize them in case they are not capable to work but most malays here are working hard out there to make a living just like anyone else islandwide (including any other nations... it's like a little UN here). Also, there's a central provident fund for every citizen to manage in terms of medical, education, and private investment - very well-organized. I've heard rumors that SGP malays are not allowed to work in high government agency due to esoteric matters & spies. Not too sure of that. Maybe you're right there at some point. Abang Johari might be the suitable candidate but I don't quite favor the monocracy of u know who for 26++ years .... The younger generations should be given some chances to get hold of Sarawak's future.

Most of you all got it all wrong. Sarawak become sarawak today is because of our own. Sarawak doesn't have the big population, then, Orang semenanjung nak beli property pon x boleh. Orang Malaysia dari Sabah/Sarawak nak masuk, kena lalu immigresen. Kalau Sarawak la keluar dari Malaysia, habisla Sarawak. Sabah? Habislah Sabah... Kita kaya dengan Minyak??? Funny... Ni semua propaganda pembangkang sahaja. They even made up story that Petronas found an oil field, which might have the biggest oil reserve in the world? And again, 1 Malaysia, 1 Israel?? Hahaha.. funny...

actually, as what i said before, the idea of sarawak independent is good! but are we all ready for it? simpson and quiroz made a very good points there i must say. if one day, sarawak become nation on it own, we must ensure social, politics and economy are stabilize enough to attract FDI

sarawak has vast oil reserve still. the sea off mukah and sarikei has oil and gas and will be utilized only when the ones in miri and bintulu are finished. the sea off kuching has not be explored yet but it is predicted to have oil and gas reserve too. the hydrodams will be generating power & at the same time money for our state. West Msia will be importing energy from us by then. they siphoned too much from us. yes you may think that they built us a few flyovers and you are happy with that? we couldn't had been like united arab emirates. sarawak progressed well because the state government managed to prevent west malaysian political parties from entering sarawak. they entered sabah and destroyed it. KK maybe developing like mad in terms of tourism BUT other than that, all failed miserably. The majority became the minority(Project IC), power shortages (even though SESB is under TNB), dilapidated KK general hospital and etc. Soon they will be entering sarawak via clubs like sarawak umno supporter group. after 50 years, they are still not building a single road to Kapit but they are considering another PLUS for West of WM. I can see more unfair treatments than benefits given by the federal government.
My 2 Cents. =)
