Thanks zookim for the pix of HKG airport. Yes, it definitely is more exciting than KLIA - the shopping for one - gosh its like a mall in there! But it will be a snowy day in Kuching if we ever have an airport of that standing. You are right to say that because it is an extension, not much can be done. I really don't know why the govt did not just build a completely new one at the selected site - somewhere near the sea - a place called Rimbungan or something like that. Considering the cost the govt is footing for the extension....... Well, anyway, I am happy that the airport is still 8 minutes drive from my home:)

For the record, I used to work with SQ but being loyal, always had a soft spot for MAS even if the old saying is true - mana ada sistem? LOL!

Welcome puffcurry and zookim!!!

I prefer the current location of the airport LOL... don't move too far heheh... if it move then we have to drive like at least 45 minutes to the airport. Now it's so fine... within 15-20min I can reach there.

Tooo bad it's just expansion.. nothing much can be expected but at least, the interior design will be more modern rather than looking like decades old, very old fashion.

When I first arrived at Kuching airport, I was so shocked! It looked so old and as if it were crumbling down. Thank goodness, when I came out, I enquired about the state of things (not a good impression on tourists and visitors, you see! An airport is like an ambassador of a country! First impressions count alot!), and I was relieved to be told that it was under renovations.

I hope it looks as good as all the other international airports! Anway, when I was wheeling all my luggage out, I noticed a girl walking past me dressed in pyjamas! Can you believe that? She was wearing a blue teddy bear pyjamas! I really took a double take.

Back in Singapore, and even, Melbourne, people dress to go to airports, because it was the place to be seen and most people don't go airports much - so it was something like a special occasion.

We started to look around for a taxi stand, and noticed this woman behind a counter that had a sign saying, "Limosine Service, 22RM"

So we went over, and first of all, she couldn't even speak proper english. It's not right to work at an International airport and not be able to speak co-herant english!
Luckily, I could speak mandarin, so I asked her about my hotel, and her rates, and so on.
She was acting all suspicious, really really eager to make us pay her upfront immediately before we even got to see her "Limosine" and saying that our luggages required 2 limos to carry it. (which mean double the price! 44Rm.)

What a rude shock I had when two long limosines came chugging by and I realised one limo could carry all my luggage and still have half the entire limo EMPTY!
She cheated me! I was so angry. I thought, forget it, if such small money means so much to her, she will lie, cheat and steal money like the conniving fox she is, she can do that kind of cheap business of lies all she wants. I don't want to lower myself to HER position. I felt sorry for her, and her family, to have to live off that kind of sorry, disgraceful business.

Anyway, I was rather concerned how many people she might be cheating and how an international airport (!) could allow such a sham business to operate on it's premises.

It totally tarnished it's reputation and image as an airport. You would never see this in other reputable countries where they strive to make their airports memorable in a good way, with good service, and polite and honourable, reputable and reliable services and businesses operating.

I think they need to really make sure such people don't destroy the good name of Kuching!

This airport thing, those "cheaters" it's everywhere in any airport in M'sia. KL got a lot too even China got a lot too. S'pore I don't know coz I went straight to the MRT that time. Since u're from S'pore and it seemed like you are new to this situation, so I assume there is no such thing in S'pore.

When the airport is completed, big jumbo jets will be able to land here!! yipeee!!!! More international flights too!
