It sucks, the storyline is good, but the rest of the movie aspect sucks.
4/10 points. Total 4 is from the storyline contribution. The rest 0 points. First off, not a true Japanese for a Geisha (Chinese and Malaysian-Chinese), second, poor English, could not catch what have been said. What do you guys think?

just watched the movie. Heard that it was filmed base on a true story of the president n a famous geisha. The producer don't dare to release the film till the president leave this world.
Why chinese on a japanese film? really a misleading info of geisha

dude, we are discussing Memoirs of Geisha in this thread.
Anyway, the movie was supposed to be filmed in the land where the original Geisha comes from (read: Japan), but the producer recieved a lot of disagreement from the Japanese government, hence they shifted back to America, so all the background and scenery you see in the movie, is made in America ![]()

I think the movie is brilliant. the author of the book is brilliant. the actings and show, the colors, the movie settings, colors, lightings are all just artistic and brilliant. I can't stop admiring how creative the movie is produced just from a book.
8/10 for Zhang Ziyi for being a brilliant actress. she's natural. 1/10 for Gongli for being an evil geisha. but 8/10 for her acting also. I think everyone acted well and natural. 8.5/10 overall for the whole movie. and its a recommendation for everyone who likes cultural and biography movies. I glanced through the book and found several stuff were not shown in the movie. Read the book for more detail storyline. p/s edgar, the director did try to find a japanese actress but none were suitable for the role. the director resorted to chinese to act. and the movie not necessary need a japanese to act cause the whole movie is in english except for some background speeches. Be grateful enough that you don't find a angmo or Lucy Liu acting as the geisha. i would vomit by then.

The movie's brilliant! But try the book! Memoirs of a Geisha shows how the Geisha?s had to go through so much training and dealing with the back stabbing of other Geisha?s that were jealous.
There were parts of the book that made you stop and think that certain things in life, that you aren?t aware of at the time, can actualy change the course of your life forever. *sigh* I give it two thumbs up (and if I had more thumbs I would give it more!)
