command lines are still around newer motherboards have the ability to boot from USB port. So if you have the correct bootup software & services in your USB drive you can boot up an empty (fresh) PC. But for those like mine which are 3 years old.... you need a floppy disk drive, as it needs to install the raid/scsi drivers.

Yes of course, the smaller and mobile the laptop, the more expensive it is, same like mobile phones, the more compact and more functional it is, the more expensive it is.
