I use " " because I was referring to the "guy" you were mentioning about, who I have no idea who he is at the time :)

So yes, like webbie said, prosumer cameras tends to be bulkier and bigger in size compared to the current sexy, slim but poor quality cameras.

Prosumer cameras are cheaper because their functions and features are not as flexible as the ones in DSLR, they have manual settings but not to the state where every single settings can be altered.

Again, DSLR is an one off investment, and their depreciation values for used ones are something to consider as well. Nobody likes to buy an used DSLR, I dont know why, but ask anyone who is interested in getting their next or their first DSLR, they all want new ones, so yes, if your husband later found himself losing interest, you might get stuck with the DSLR in your possesion forever, worst case if you get those cheaper DSLR where chances of selling them are even thinner.

Get a prosumer camera, preferably a very moderately priced one, not something that cost like Rm1500 and above, there should be a decent one that cost well below that price figure which is still good enough for entry level photographer.

If you want to just point and shoot, prosumer camera is your best bet, then slowly venture into their manual and custom settings to learn more about photography techniques. When you have mastered all the manual settings of your camera and considering to go a huge leap ahead, then you can invest in a proper DSLR.

personally, the easiest DSLR for beginners would be Nikon D40 or D40x

it is very user friendly.

i used to use a D40x until i decided to get a D80. basically to my opinion, the D40x is an introduction to on how to use a DSLR :D

well, different people, different thoughts.

forget d40x or d40. u will get the functions in D80 or so. do don't bother spending money on a single stage which is not entirely necessary.

Hohoho, another canon user. I see most people in Malaysia using Nikon. Canon after sales service and repair still have room for improvement (especially in Kuching). If Canon have a repair center (with free flow of water & coffee making machine) like in singapore, i guess their sales in malaysia definitely would improve.
