Wi Fi - wireless fidelity
They sell special antennas that connect to your USB which would boost the built-in wifi signals. I'm not sure if they do work, but a friend in Singapore says they do and it's neat. But expensive. Or you could try using your notebook in a large wok and aiming it in the general direction of wifi signal..

if you are trying to boost your router's wireless signal then you can do this If you are trying to get better signal from your inbuilt wifi in your laptop. you can get this neat usb stuff here or you can get a wireless pcmcia card for your laptop where you can do this mod here

i have inbuilt wifi for my laptop, can i use the chinese sieve method also? instead of buying an expensive one from computer shop (usb booster, not sieve

If i am not mistaken, just lenghten the cables externally to your strainer or something else that could boost the signal. (do at your own risk) or perhaps read this site here
