What's new, Wong Soon Koh is one of my grandpa's closest friend when he was active in politics and he is from Sibu anyway, of course he pays more attention to Sibu.

And it is about time to develop Sibu anyway, Kch and Miri have both achieved 'City' status, and they are really pushing Sibu really hard to reach that goal, but I doubt it will ever get there, unless the title is easily attainable.

The same or similar discussion on this matter is out and about this forum everywhere and I cannot understand why are you guys so excited about the new KIA really, yes, it is new and beautiful and a little unutilise.

But put yourself in the position of those said 'companies' and think for yourself if it is feasible to even introduce everything considering the lack of response from the tourism board in the first place.

Try increasing the development plans before you whinge about bringing in more flights to Kuching.

Kuching is now developing bro.. but yalah.. lack of tourist will hamper everything.. should push for more developtment.

Ripleys should not build a theme park in Melaka, better build one in Kuching.. after all, there is no theme park in Malaysia Borneo.

Hi Guys,

I am a new forum member from ur neighbour downsouth, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Us in West K support your desire to have more international connection out of Kuching.

I think there is one thing overlooked by the flight regulators and operators in Malaysia. You see, Kuching is not only a hub for West Sarawakians out of the region, but also for us here in West Kalimantan.

To travel to many destinations alot of the residence of West K have to go through Jakarta, Singapore via Batam or Kuching, or KL via Kuching. Many people shy away from flying out of Jakarta because they have to pay exit tax of IDR 1 Million (about RM 390) per person and pay a more expensive fare in USD. And sometimes the plane still has to transit in Singapore. The good side is less connecting points and plenty of flight to Jakarta.

Alternative would be flying to Batam, catch a taxi to ferry terminal, take a ferry to Singapore than catch a plane from there. Which is troublesome, time consuming and quite costly. The good side is flight is cheaper because so many airlines to choose from and connecting to so many destinations. If you managed to get a good airlines deal may end-up saving a lot compare to flying out of Jakarta. (West K residence exiting the country via Batam, Supadio Airport to Kuching - the only international destination out of West K - or Land Border to Sarawak are exempted from paying exit tax). But it will take a day of your time to do the travel.

Still another alternative would be to fly or take a bus or drive to Kuching, then take a plane to KL or Singapore and continue onward. The good site is save alot of money on the kuching leg. The bad side is time and energy consuming, have to pay for flight out of kuching.

Since Air Asia makes Kuching its hub, there has been a lot of people from West K transiting in Kuching before continuing to KL, KK & JB/SINGAPORE (My self and my family included). To bad there aren't more choices such as Macau, Shenzen, Bangkok, Perth... Heck...Sidney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Shanghai. Other wise there will be more reason for more people to make Kuching their transit point.

By the way, KK can not say the same about its relation to East K, since East K has Balikpapan's Sepinggan Airport which is quite well connected in Indonesia and regionaly. While to attract residence of East Sarawak, they are competing with Bandar Seri Begawan which is closer and better connected.

So once again, we Support your effort. Kuching Boleh.

I thought they were building a 'water theme park' at the Isthmus? Or is that just more fluff on the cake.

Build and they will come. That's the Dubaian theory to development and attracting investment.

So let's start building the city into a major centre for offshore finance. Reduce tax, limit restrictions, increase our well educated workforce and zone out free trade areas.

But remember the lesson from Brunei. They built a massive theme park in Jerudong, yet the crowds never came. A tricky question with very unexpected outcomes. Hope for the best.
