guys, i think we should put a positive outlook for this..for 2007, it seems like we have more in the list and everyone is trying to bring in new experiences and enrichment to the city..let give them a try and chances...
regarding dayak plaza, it seems like the total idea is not that attractive which lead to low popularity of the projects. It just an office tower with shoplots..new things like mall has received good response from the investors. The spring, Boulevard, Green Height Mall, merdeka plaza, One TJ, novotel interhill, swk convention centre, DUN & the one next to jalan song (dun know the name) is all coming up.. and new to our list would be the latest ting Pek Khiing 4star hotel which i saw last week they have bring everything there..their construction machine are ready for the projects.. About us to become second kk, i dun think so..kk actually has a centred city which has few new developments to more packed the city..kch on the other hand has all these mega projects all over scattered which bring more choices to the kuchngites..

Can't they put more daring designs onto the structures? Sigh.. just wish for the skyscrappers to appear in Kuching.. http://architecture.myninjaplease.com ... 12/dubai-towers-dubai.jpg Samples of Dubai towers. cool eh? Saturday, I watched National Geographic Documentary and saw the development of dubai was tremendously designed from sand to luxurios city within 10 years. Well, the price have the money. The Palm Jumirah (palm islands) took about 4 years to put rocks & sands for the foundation and 1-2 years of development of buildings. Now you see how the prince can fulfill the princess dreams in 6 years. :) Can our rambut putih fulfill our dreams in 10 years? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I don't see the need for towering skycrappers here in Kuching and Sarawak. We have plenty of land for development (just need the approval from white hair...) unlike smaller country with huge population where land is scarce (eg. Japan and Taiwan).
...and kuching population is only 500,000-600,000 (compare Taipei 2.6million or Tokyo 12million, source wikipedia.com). how are we going to generate the demand for all these new development??

We knew it was false-hope talking all the way.
But... At least we comfort ourself here. Unlike ruling parties, debating out there. IF lucky, someone might be watching us... :)

That's harsh words coming from you, Edgar, that our own country will never be developed.
I may be abroad, but like many Malaysian expats here, we still hope that Malaysia will do well. We know it will, and we will return to assist in development when the time comes. It's just that at the moment, my area of expertise doesn't have a large market. I find Malaysian urban areas as good as developed countries. Been to Manchester or Düsseldorf? They don't have the best of infrastructure even when compared to the (though limited) highways and roads of KL and Kuching. In fact, away from the glittering skyscrapers of Sydney and Melbourne, Australia isn't that developed either. Besides, what is development and how would you define it? Is it the level of education or per capita income inflated beyond the actual average wage thanks to a select (financial paper reading) few? Consider Kuching in the 1970s and Kuching in the 2000s. My aunty who lives in Canada comes back every 3 years and she says that Kuching is as good as cities in Ontario. Consider KL within the same period. Backwater to Islamic Financial Centre. True, money is funnelled from one place to another to assist in what I believe some of you will call a façade. Though keep in mind, ours is more spread out, despite it's imperfections. Take Ho Chi Minh and compare it to Da Nang; then compare Kuching with Bintulu, and do likewise with Adelaide and Port Augusta.

I agree with mochaholic. Looking around at cities at developed countries, its not all flash and glamour. Lying in the outskirts are slums, poor districts and rampant crime.
Kuching has done a good job of keeping itself fresh. Take Wellington for example, the core city is great, but outside in the suburbs of Newtown, Lyall bay...its run down, heavy crime, gangs, large proprtion of school dropouts, and this is supposed to be a developed country right? But as the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side.

I do agree that the way the country is being governed, it is heading towards becoming second Zimbabwe. Look at our leaders, none of them behave like a saned human being. They way they talk, they way the behave and the dirty tactics they used to preserve their power prove that those who vote for them are blind. I used to manage Government projects. The last project that I involved with, I saw Malaysian tax payers paying three times the market rate to get a service that majority of them still out of reach despite the project is funded with public money. It cost few hundred millions and that is a hugh sum. For those who studied or worked oversea, this type of leaders already retire or put in jail long time ago. The leaders are using racial issue to keep them in power. The minority right are taken away in order to gain the support from the majority. This is the same tactic used by Mugabe in Zimbabwe. If the mentality of people still don't change, Malaysia will soon become another Zimbabwe.
