The best road in Kuching can be found at Petra Jaya. :) the rest of the road, in a very sad condition especially Green Rd area.

The problem is that the contractors of the road does not communicate with each other when doing the work. When the road is perfectly tar, the next day, the water board come and dig it out to lay some pipe then just simply sealed it. Then the next day, Sesco come and dig it again.

Green Rd is shit.

Problem is, they don't lay new pipes, but when a bad road is being resurfaced, they are simply, resurfaced, but the potholes which are the access points to most underground piping and cabling that belongs to Water board, Telekom and Sesco are completely the responsibilities of these organisation.

If they do not with to re-route their points, it will still be sitting in the middle of the road, usually as a result of widening or adding new lanes to existing old roads.

It is not cheap to re-route, it is a lot of work and cost a lot, you get this sort of road conditions in Sydney Melbourne and most cities in Australia which have transformed from small roads to wider and larger roads, usually get potholes in the middle of the road.

hey people, take a look at these pictures; all the roads spoiled by the lorries and JKR people didnt even come to repair the roads. potholes everywhere. worse road that has a lot of potholes is the old road behind the kuching airport (short-cut to kota sentosa).

these pictures taken somewhere around the housing area at semariang.

Sorry for digging this one up, but just noticed the response.

Edgar, I STRONGLY disagree with you on this one.

If one takes a drive throughout the state from Kch to Miri and back again, it's Miri where you'll notice the difference on your backside (and probably in your car service/repair bills). Same with KK-Miri. Or from anywhere else with paved roads for that matter. You could go at 80+kmh in the small roads in the rural area to kuching, for example, but you can't even go 60kmh here. Not unless you're suicidal or something.

The all important links do not have reflectors, road lines and sometimes not even rails to prevent you from driving into the swamps below. Also, the amount of potholes (old road coming in from Bintulu) and the wavy-navy roads (coming in from KK/Brunei) makes it some of the worst. I've met people driving all over Borneo, they'll attest to the fact that comparing paved roads, Miri's is the worst. Only recently are some of the roads resurfaced in town, but it didn't last for long.

We're talking Kuching vs. Miri.

City vs City comparison.

Not the whole division itself.

As in Kuching city vs. Miri city.

Yes, roads outside Miri itself is pretty bad, so are Kuching and Sibu or the whole of Sarawak for that matter.

I've driven in Miri cbd for a couple of times, and you do have one of the smoothest road of all.

Well, since its comparing within city limits, I can show you half the city has bad roads as well. Pretty moot because it has recently been resurfaced, but check back in another year's time. (They've begun cutting up the roads already, and it's been raining heavily over the past months, so.....)
