The dome is actually pioneered by the Romans with the construction of the Pantheon in Rome, and based on Roman arches.
The domes we see now on mosques were pioneered by the Byzantines, hence the domes were never of Arabic or Islamic influence, just those of a Byzantine influence. Persian domes are similar to Byzantine domes, and are more incorporated to our 'Islamic-Malay' architetcture, most notably the Federal Territories Court Complex in Hartamas KL and in Putrajaya. Kuching domes is a variant of cultures. The new Legislative Assembly Building incorporates Bidayuh and Melanau 'domes.' The 7th Mile Dome is a standard hemispheric dome. Okay, enough of domes. I suddenly want Dome coffee.

Anyway, new building update. Brighton Square, corner of Song Road and Tun Jugah Road, on the way to Tabuan Jaya.

The joys of Kuching traffic. I was stuck at the junction of Tun Jugah and Song roads, again, today. The rain wasn't as heavy and I snapped this from my car. A little clearer this time.
