I've been staying in Kch like 80%of my life so far, and I still haven't gotten use to the so-called common sights of carcasses on the roads. Cats, dogs, rats, even birds that got ran over and flattened by vehicles. It's just so sick. Never mind the rats and birds, but it's really disturbing to see ppl's once-pets lying on the road with their entrails all over. The worst thing is, it takes a while for the council of the area to clean up the mess. So the thing just gets run over again and again. And starts to stink a mile.

Like today I saw what looked like a cute Maltese (or local breed lookalike) by the roadside near Stampin area. It's just so sad.

Why do ppl let their pets run around the neighborhood streets like that? And why birds? How did that happen? I just don't get it.

For cats, you can't really control them or put them on leash or something. they would just roam around. So if those house pet cat got hit, I don't think the owner is to blame.

speaking of that, I find rats are pretty common to be embedded with the tar road. they got ran over so badly until they become one with the tar road. no council would bother to clean that up.

Sadly we don't get them here in Australia, but we do get kangaroos, koalas and possums

Anyway, one more species that you failed to mention that is a common sight in Kuching roads are wild toads. Well can't blame you, because they are black and once run over by cars, they are so flat it looks like gum waste patches on the road

Haha.. on Aussie highways you have warning signages that show turtle crossing, kangaroo crossing.. even wild ducks! Well, they have it in Perth anyway.

Are u for realz when you said koalas?? Koala carcasses?? On the road?? :O

Maan.. don't ever hit a kangaroo.. especially the fullgrown one. It wouldn't die as much as getting injured.. but your car will suffer the most!! Huge 'roo dent!

What you've mentioned is pretty common elsewhere in Malaysia. Some of the highlights of my life are when my friend drove his Ford Ranger into a bunch of pigeons.

The conversation goes like this:

Me: "Watch out, pigeons on the road."

Friend: "Don't worry, they'll fly out of the way. Pigeons always do that. Trust me."

*Thud* *thud* *THUD* *thUD* *BuMP*
