By now, world's best airport could still be Seoul-Incheon, KL-Sepang, Singapore-Changi and Hong Kong. Mostly in Asians.

My personal pick would be Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Hong Kong, Singapore Changi and KLIA, in that order. The reason why Asian airports are so nice: we're trying to attract the big guns, the big spenders in Europe who don't mind spending.

Besides, Asia for the most part is a stop-over destination, and most airports are hubs. By making them nice, you attract more visitors. In addition, the airports are a reflection of the nation's desires, wishes and aspirations.

In Europe and other western countries, it is difficult for them to build large fancy airports because of the delays and troubles involved. While in Asia, we just grab land and build, with little to no public consultation, in the west, they must have public consultation.

Hence, London Heathrow's Terminal 5 took 20 years; Sydney Kingsford-Smith will not be expanding or be relocated any time soon despite earlier plans for a much needed new runway, and a collapsed terminal in Paris Charles De Gaulle will involve at least 5 years in public inquiry.

Beijing's new terminal took less than 4 years, a massive impressive structure which eclipses everything else in terms of grandeur, size and awesomeness.

Bangkok unfortunately won't make it to the top list. It may be one of the largest single terminal but it failed to make into the list due to the quality issue, like the crack at the taxi bay etc. Check the skytrax website and Bangkok is not listed as world's best airports.

Really? Didn't notice that. Haven't been to Seoul, so no comment on that one.

Was too busy running around to really notice the cracks. The soaring skylights and overall airy-bright feel in the terminal was what I remember the most.

Read it on BBC news, it was due to the were rushing to build the new terminal and the area was a swamp area.

In the news of Beijing airport's new terminal, it stated that the new terminal could still not even tackle KL's and Singapore's. It means that the new terminal might need more improvement.

Beijing's new terminal is dedicated to international flights only, and will still have to undergo expansion eventually. KLIA took 10 years for the next phase of expansion. Singapore Changi does theirs according to demand, with three distinct architectural styles reflecting the age when they were built.

I was reading Conde Nast Traveller's Travel Awards 2007 and it was Hong Kong, Singapore Changi and Dubai, in that order.

I do not agree with their rankings from number 5 onwards.

In short, Singapore and Hong Kong will always be in the list.

The results might be a little different compared with others. However, Skytrax is still one of the most prestigious.

So far Hong Kong is the best airport I've seen compared to Changi or KLIA. There are 2 terminals at the moment, one asia flights and the other international flights. The airport is humongous and artificially built on a reclaimed land @ Tai Yu San. But personally I think Incheon is far more advance than HKIA if you talk about the facilities. They lose the first place positon because of the size. But PRWeb named world best airport to Incheon, of course skytrax comes first before anyone could. :P
