They mentioned "merancang untuk membuka cawangan pertama di Sabah dan Sarawak yang dijangka dilaksanakan dalam tempoh dua tahun lagi" and I just can't shake this feeling that it could refer to just a store for both states. For all we know, they could just be planning one in KK, or Miri, or Kuching; thus fulfilling the 'pertama di Sabah dan Sarawak.'

Good news it is, but this is just a proposed plan, and West Malaysians are notorious for proposed plans for Sabah and Sarawak, and until now, PanGlobal has yet to release any more details on their 'proposed hotel, serviced apartment and commercial complex on prime riverfront land in Kuching.'

So, until they mention 'first store in Sarawak' and it comes with a concrete, definite press release, I'll just pass this on to the side. Carrefour was rumoured to be coming in since 2002, as was Tesco, yet this is 2008, and the only big one to step in is Cold Storage.

Hey mate, you never know. Carrefour might opens up its first store in Sibu. As you know, Kch and Miri are conquered by Boulevard and the like. As Sibu is still monopoly by SingKwong/Giant Supermarket, you never know. Wait till its official press release then.

Cheers :P

Hey Kapiskum, your dream may come true.
According to one my my contractor friend, IKEA is opening in Kuching. Location will be at Petra Jaya.
I'm not sure this but it sounds serious. Its a breaking news.
We all just wait & see.

But sometimes we will have surprise, surprise that shock us all. I am not too sure about that but I just heard and share to you guys here. Either its going to open or not, time will tell. But gossip is cool too.

Carrefour is just an overgrown supermarket, like Tesco. Nothing really special. It's just the big brand name which draws people in. Tesco has announced a rather large profit for 2007, and have been talking about expansion, but so far, their large expansions are based in India and their US operations.

Carrefour, on the other hand, I have yet to see them opening so soon so enthusiastically. Location-wise, where would they open? They normally like big, wide, planned open spaces. Would they want to enter the market so soon? Who knows, but rumours come and go, so have press releases, but after the first 'we plan to open XYZ in Kuching,' we never hear any follow-up plans.

Ikea has been old news for a while. Rumoured to open along the Satok bridge, Samariang, Kuching Isthmus; I'm in agreement with Fuyu. Population of 1 million, then they'll consider.

We can't help but feel cynical.
