Gawai Dayak is not the Dayak New Year, it just marks the end of the harvest season...though yes, festive greetings to all celebrating! I'll take the tuak and pass you a few shots of vodka!

p.s. Gawai means something like festival, so...yeah.

p.p.s and an extra holiday for Kuchingites! Both Monday and Tuesday are public holidays!

Mocha + Tuak + Vodka....heee

Nope, none, won't be in Kuching during that long weekend, off to party somewhere else. Maybe, we'll just have an 'online' open house here in Catscity with digital vodka, digital tuak and digital mocha served.

\(^O^)/ My best wishes to all our dear dear Iban/Bidayuh/ETC brothers and sisters who celebrate Gawai!

Digital alcohols? Hmm... I don't mind if they are digitally stored vouchers where you can redeem from some shops~ Hee

Yeah, you are right but not all. Gawai Dayak is still consider as New Year. Since native friends they don't have a New Year celebration, so in their mind, they still consider the day as New Year.It is a thanksgiving day marking good harvest and a time to plan for the new farming season or activities ahead.

I would not say that you are wrong, just that bytez was half correct.
Even CNY is a Festival Celebration as well. Agree?

I'm mixed, Bytez, and thanks for the clarification, Zorren, though I have to admit, being one myself, I have never heard of a Dayak New Year, our New Year is still 1 Jan. Perhaps we're neither right nor wrong? Let's just leave it as a festival.

And tuak + vodka + mocha is really a bad, bad, bad combination. The whiff of vodka, the sudden sting of tuak and the caffeine of mochas would really over-heighten the alcohol.

There is still about 3 more days of Gawai, if I'm not mistaken, a whole week of festivities, depending on how long they want to celebrate.
