I am planning relocate Kuching at end of 2008 and would appreciate knowing cost of new PC+Monitor. I present have HP AMD Athlon 64 bit 3400+ with 1.0 GB and a Fuji 17" Monitor. Not concerned about having exactly same kit and cost of printer not important - just PC and monitor cost would be very helpful.

I recently did a market research as I was thinking to get myself a desktop computer also.

I am not familiar with AMD. but for Pentium Core 2 duo system, you can get it in about RM1200.00 excluding monitor/LCD. With graphic card built in and so on.

if you wish to checkout those HP or Dell. you can go to www.hp.com.my/store for the full set in RM. its about the range of RM1900 to RM3k for better spec.

you can check dell.com also

Tks webbie for prompt and helpful response. I will have a look at the site you linked me to, but considering time that mine would be unavailable to me due to shipping it seems to be making sense to get another there.

maybe you want to consider the Flatscreen LCD instead of CRT? its rather affordable these days. take less space and it doesn't make your eyes tired

It would roughly cost u about RM800 for a 22 inch" LCD Monitor, brand wise - Viewsonic. For wide variety of LCD monitors, price ranged from RM700-1200.

As for the bundled PC (CPU) would cost you slightly higher... (gamers spec) RM2500++ (without original windows XP/Vista installation)

-----------------------------------------------------

I dig some specs for u (estimated figure) so you can plan your budget:

1x Asus P5K Motherboard -RM390
1x Core2 Duo E6750 -RM595
1x Asus 8600GT 512MB Video Ram -RM340
1x Maxtor 160GB 133/2mb Hard Disk -RM165
1x Apacer 1GB RAM -RM80
1x LG DVD-RW 20x ROM -RM115
1x Cooler Master EP 550W (PSU; power supply) -RM235
1x Cooler Master casing (black) -RM135
1x Altec Lancing Speaker -RM375
1x Logitech Keyboard + Mouse -RM55

(Optional service : Formatting and PC Repair -RM30)

A copy of Windows XP Pro - RM470 (Vista just sux)
Pirated - I'm not sure but I never buy original copies of windows :P

Anti-Virus : Avast is the choice. PM me for the free keys. Home edition is not powerful enough though.

-----------------------------------------------------

Kuching reseller / computer shops will normally markup their price for 2%-4% depends on product demands and popularity. Ask for a discount at times.

If you can't find what you need, take a trip down Singapore's Sim Lim Square. I'm sure it's worth your buck.

-----------------------------------------------------

Disaster plan : In Kuching city, we rarely have storms except minor floods. Lightning strike, maybe a few times in a year. If you're considering of having an APC Surge Protector, you may go for APC Smart UPS 750VA. You can get one at the cost of RM140+ Don't get con by dishonest seller.

Internet connectivity : For broadband, subscribe on STREAMYX although malaysian claimed the service was awful at times. My friend did claimed Maxis Broadband sux as well as it took him half an hour to upload one 1MB photo.

A router (for broadband) will be given by TM Net as a bundled package for signing up their service. Here's the list:-

Streamyx Broadband Plans
-----------------------------------------------------

Check here for the plans.

Note : We use ADSL Line a.k.a. wired telephone lines hang over the streets and to your home which was unsabtle during raining season. You'll loose packets and eventually got disconnected. My area, Jalan Green is an example.
