for the location of Merdeka Palace (Hotel & Suites), you may need to walk quite a distance to find good food.

do refer to the map here
http://www.catscity.com.my/map/kuchingcitymap.pdf

you may need to walk to "Jln China" or China street for hawker food. about 15 mins walk.

or you can walk right to the opposite of Merdeka palace (across the Padang Merdeka grass field) to the "Kuching Mosque" building where you will find food in the surrounding area. Mostly would be local Malay food. this is about 10-15mins walk.

there won't be anything much on food if you walk to the left side of the building.

Aound your area there is Blablabla restaurant - good modern chinese food. Bit pricey.

And there is also Green Hill Corner cafe - good beef noodles.

Both of these are around the Star cineplex area.

there are people selling Kuih lapis at main bazaar area. they just setup a table outside one of the shops along main bazaar. I don't go there often so not really sure about it.

you should be able to find both kolo mee and sarawak laksa in both areas mentioned as they are usually found in any eateries area in Kuching.

when will you be in kuching? and how many are you traveling with?

Maybe I will go talk a look and snap some photos to show u if i do drop by.

if you're coming within first 2-3 weeks of august. do drop by to the food fair at Dewan Masyarakat. Kuching festival food fair. August is a month long celebration of city day.

you may need to take a taxi to this place. tell the taxi driver "Dewan masyarakat or MBKS building.
