Hello, what are the options for fitness studios in the city centre of Kuching? By good, i mean air conditioning, clean treadmills, a room with pads for stretching, and free weights. i saw ghastly photos of fitness first in kuching somewhere on the web!

Kuching doesn't have a Fitness First as far as I know, but fit4life is good. www.fit4life.com.my

There's a thread somewhere in the forum talking about gyms as well.

thanks for the old link. i ended up joining the health center at Merdeka Palace and compared to my American standards, it is a sad excuse of a gym. I'm an amateur runner; I like to run 5k on the treadmill. The ceiling is so low that I can touch the ceiling and I'm only 150cm or 5'0". They have air-conditioning, but it is very weak and they often keep the doors open. And on top of that, an automatic air freshener is sprayed every few minutes and if you're doing a serious aerobic workout, like running, it feels like you're going to choke from the chemicals. i really feel like that spray aggravates my asthma. To complete the picture, one of the staff members is utterly rude. Once, when 2 others were on the 2 treadmills, I asked for a pen to write my name on the reservations board. The worker insolently asked what she was supposed to do about it. And finally, the dressing room is a dark and cavernous place where there's hardly any room to change when you're alone, let alone in the presence of other members! In a nutshell, AVOID MERDEKA AT ALL COSTS.

I had the luck to check out Kinesis at Stampark. I am impressed by the friendly staff members, spacious facilities, and top of the line equipment. The dressing room is so well lit, airy, and truly pristine. It's quite luxurious and makes working out a pleasure.

Yea I reckon the best gyms in kch are kinesis and fit4life.

Kinesis is the newest one.

I heard Hilton gym is not bad too - but very small.

you can try the civic centre gym - MSNS Gym which is a subsidized by the government for state athletes. It is fully equipped but the membership is scarce. A walk-in is charged at rm10.

There is a gym equipment store called Fitness First (not sure if it's still in business), but the gym Fitness First has yet to set up shop in Kuching.
