From A Culture of Violence to A Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit

10 - 14 OCTOBER 2008 (Friday - Tuesday)
10AM - 10PM
tHe Spring

This exhibition pinpoints the core issues of human security and nuclear disarmament for the general public, showing the hopeful role citizens around the world can play in creating a culture of peace today. It emphasizes the importance of transforming the human spirit to create a culture of peace.

It starts with each one of us valuing and respecting life and human rights and taking our beliefs a step further and showing positive behaviors that promote dialogue, understanding and solidarity. Through imagery and the words of leading world figures, the exhibit explores topics ranging from the public policies of international leaders to the grassroots campaigns of ordinary citizens.

This exhibition is organised by Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a worldwide organization with NGO status in the United Nations that aims to promote international goodwill via activities rooted in a commitment to the values of peace, culture and education.

The presence of the exhibition in Malaysia is co-sponsored by Soka Gakkai Malaysia and Physicians for Peace and Social Responsibility (PPSR), an affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW).

The SGI also supports the International Campaign Against Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) . ICAN focuses on the root of the nuclear weapons problem – the continued possession of the weapons by a minority of countries. ICAN aims to achieve a Nuclear Weapons Convention to ban the development, possession and use of nuclear weapons, in other words, it aims for a nuclear-free world. Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to sign the ongoing ICAN declaration for nuclear weapons abolition.

The opening ceremony will be held on Friday afternoon, and there will be some dance/music performances.

Yup. This exhibition had gone to a few places around the world since its launch last year, and its contribution to peace awareness is supported by the United Nations.
