It is the month of August, on the shores of the Black Sea. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town.
He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one.

The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the butcher.

The Butcher takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.

The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.

The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town prostitute that in these hard times, gave her service on credit.

The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel proprietor to pay for the ro oms that she rented when she brought her clients there.

The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.

At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 Euro note, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.

No one earned anything.

However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the United States Government is doing business today.

And if that doesn't scare the hell out of you then you are brain dead!

I still think the Government should cancel the fest. WHO has put the alert to level 6, worldwide pandemic, and has put out prevention methods.
So far, there's 158 cases in Malaysia with 3 cases in Kuching. No deaths, fortunately.

Tourist coming in for the fest might come from different places, most came from countries with high rate of infections.

We cannot rely on the screenings done by the airport personnel. With the amount of the comings and goings in the airport, it'll be hell. It's impossible for the medical team to screen everybody effectively, ensuring everyone having a clean bill of health before leaving the airport. It must be noted that, for the fest, lots of people would go through the immigration at roughly the same time.

I'm not suggesting completely deny entry to all tourists, just the Fest alone. Cancel it. With the amount of people grouping in one place, imagine if one or more of them has it. Would it infect the others? And these people who come in contact, in close proximity, with the infected would do to the population?

Look at our neighbor, Singapore. Their medical team are one of the best in the region and yet, they have to date, 701 cases. They have lots of visitors going through their airport and their authorities had screened them, but yet, the pandemic spread like wildfire. Singapore's size is about the same with Kuching Division. Maybe we don't have as much population but the possibility of reaching high level of infections are equally high.

I would rather kill the 'goose with the golden egg' if having the goose around would prevent me from getting healthy (or alive) enough to spend the money.

Even if you do away with the festival, the infection will still spread. Whether the festival is on or not, the screening procedures at the airport will still go on.
Its a really mild illness, in fact with symptoms even milder than the common flu

There's no need to over-react to H1N1. Its a flu! It has a kill-rate just like the flu too. Alot of people in UK and Australia are even deliberately exposing their kids to H1N1 to get them immune to it!

This current strain is very mild - alot of ppl infected don't even have to be hospitalized. They just take Tamiflu and go home and rest.

The virus has been & is here to stay. we can only hope it doesn't mutate into a more severe strain. whether we like it or not. It has survived since the dawn of man. Man gets flu, flu gets man (& woman).

If our city looks like sh1t or rubbish dump or smelly... tourist & event organizer will naturally leave us alone. then we need to ask ourselves... "Are we lacking in organised cleanliness & socially dysfunctional.

Reports state that H1N1 is far less dangerous than the old bird flu, at least when they increased the alert level. The world is already as interconnected as it is, and denying trade would pretty much leave us isolated. Australia once prided itself in having strict controls to diseases and pests, and they do not mess around when you're at customs, but now Melbourne is H1N1 Central.

The WHO has already stated that there really is no need for alarm or over-reaction, and seeing people wearing face masks in the airport and on the plane actually makes me giggle. When you eat, you remove the mask, so what effect can it do?

Cancelling a festival would have no effect. Yes, more people concentrated in one location, but in that same vein, you should also stop people from being in airports or other internally ventilated buildings, even shopping malls or cinemas, as a sneeze in one location would eventually spread via the closed buildings/ventilation ducts. At least RWMF is outdoors.

Just keep your fluids up, wash your hands, be courteous when you sneeze (no loud 'hatchoos!' and please, for goodness sake, use a tissue or hankie), and see a doctor if you feel 'off.'

You guys read the newspaper today?

Why are the health authorities here so freakin scared and over-reacting????

That only makes the public worried and scared!!!!

And its so freakin hypocritical that they tell oversea Malaysian students not to come back for the time being, but they still welcome tourists for RWMF!!!!

Does it feel like they know something they are not telling us now?? Like maybe H1N1 ain't as bad as they want us to think it is????

Ask any doctor and they will tell you H1N1 is unstoppable now. And that's ok because its just a flu!!!!!!!!!!!! Its nowhere near as serious or as deadly as SARS.

WHO is only worried that the H5N1 virus (SARS) and H1N1 will start to merge or mutate together - than if that happens Tamiflu will be rendered useless.

But guess what? If you get H1N1 now and recover, your immune system will be protected from this new mutation!!!!! That's why parents in the UK are deliberately exposing their kids to H1N1!!!!!

So if you really want to protect yourself, go airport and kiss every angmo that arrives!!!!
