I would like to buy a laptop soon.

But which brand is better?

From what I know, acer got a lot of problems, Hp= Hot pc.

My budget will be roughly Rm1700.

For my younger brother actually, and he is taking engineering or architect course, what spec will suit him?

Please suggest me, available kuching only.

engineering may need higher spec. for autocad if he is using it.
higher spec will be more expensive.

can always checkout www.dell.com.my . always got promotion.

Yup, you are right, he uses autocad. So that means i'll need to consider high end graphic card huh? any other brand instead of dell?

Mid-range - Acer for Malaysia :D Hmm... can opt for DELL as well for the affordable price range... rather, I doubt if DELL resolved their battery overheating issues.

HP is a no no, since service center in east malaysia are highly disregard but rather different story in singapore / KL.

High range go for Asus... gamers specs.

Most laptops comes with anti-virus 3/6/12 months supscription and loads of programs pre-installed which I found it irritating, a waste of space and memory. Try uninstall those unnecessary if possible.

Your replies are appreciated. especially bytez and kealchg.

kealchg, I havin bad experience with acer, so might not consider the brand.

bytez, is DELL good in graphics? What about NEC?

im using the new dell inspiron 13. with the upgraded graphic card. bought for 2.5k at promotion price.

able to play red alert 3. i assume that is good enough for other application that requires high graphic processing and rendering.

I thought NEC is selling their laptop business? NEC has HDMI output, i choose because of this feature & kiasuness. but daily i'm using dell.
