My friends back in UK have difficulty in believing what I say about the lack of competitive services in the internet provider areana here, they think Malaysia is so technologically advanced in this field.
The reason the service is so inexpensive in the UK is competition, here there is virtually only 1, UK has dozens and dozens of options. Used to be like it is here when British Telecom had the monopoly but the Government removed BT's monopoly and now its a free for all - to the benefit of users of course.

I had continual breaks of connection for 2 weeks, on maybe for an hour then off until late night, spent time every day ringing KL helpline and eventually got engineer allocated who fixed saying it was poor port quality. An hour after he left it was back to its continual break in connection. Made further complaint and asked for change in port or cancellation of service, got 2nd engineer visit, this time port was changed and have had no problem since. Got rebate of massive sum of RM 18 for 2 weeks of almost no service !!!

On the issue of internet connection speed in Malaysia...we are ranking almost last in the world lah.....we always say 'Malaysia Boleh'....can the government do something to make it really 'Boleh'?

Are things likely to change in the coming year ? I notice TM advertise 2gb speed, they tell me I 'might' be able to get that speed from my telephone number but will not know until the engineer comes to do the upgrade !! I think it is safer to stick to what I have now, I can see a situation where you pay for upgrade then cannot have the speed. When my connection is running OK I can get 1.62 speed with my 1GB connection.

GB??? Gigabit?
Think it should be 2mbps to be exact using ADSL2 line.
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is able to support up to 1.5mbps max... Well, just hope fiber optical cable to be use in the future of Internet Technology. It's already the future and we're still lagging behind.

When ADSL1 go totally uncapped, the maximum speed it can go is 8Mbps. But you will have to live almost next door to the Exchange to ever get that sort of line speed. ADSL2 or ADSL2+ can push all the way up to 24Mbps. Again, you have to live almost next door to the Exchange.

I get 6Mbps and I live 5km from the exchange. This is UK that I am talking about. And UK has almost the slowest broadband in the whole of Europe.

If you really want speed, you guys should look at Japan and Korea. 100Mbps is the norm for them.

But I struggle to understand what you can do with so much bandwidth? As soon as you can download faster than you can watch them, you won't possibly be downloading further more.
