MIRI: Student mass hysteria has spread from Miri to a secondary school in Niah since Tuesday.

More than 40 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Suai, Niah, were stricken by hysteria over three consecutive days.

Those affected were mostly girl students.

The school which is about 45 minutes’ drive from Miri city, has 1,006 students in Form One to Form Six, including 600 boarding students.

According to its principal, Abu Saran Sahari when met on Thursday evening, it was the first such occurrence in the school.

On Tuesday, 10 students were attacked, followed by nine on Wednesday (three in the morning and six at night) and 20 students yesterday.

Teachers, parents and other students all did their part to assist those affected.

“You can see students screaming, crying and mumbling something,” said Abu Saran.

Classes temporarily halted due to the attack which broke out during the 10am break yesterday.

However, they resumed after the school management managed to control the situation.

“We have sent students who were attacked by the hysteria back home while some were quarantined in a separate room so it would not spread to others,” Abu Saran said.

Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang went to the school upon receiving the news.

The actual cause of the incident had yet to be determined.

Last month more than 20 students in a school in Miri were affected by a mass hysteria attack.

not a news of Kuching. but i hope it won't spread to Kuching

last i know it also happened somewhere near 7th lunar month.call me superstitious but isnt it too much of a coincidence

if you rewinds back the statistics,it affects mostly girls,Muslim girls especially,location usually at schools,and also before any exams. i myself had witnessed it 1st hand,it happened to some girls at their rented rooms,which i was also staying nearby at that time.this time,these gals were departmental/emporium workers and not student,i was also a worker back then . some of them pusing2 on the ground,some rushing here and there,shouting "antu...,antu..!! ". and younno,some silly bomoh-wannabes action2 go there and ,* phew,phew here...phew phew there..*,pretending to be very can - nothing improved. the gals just continues for sometimes untill they got tired and settled down.

Hysteria? Like screaming madness and freaking out?

I think they mean Dysentery.
