I personally have not been there. but my friends have and commented that not ALL their items are cheap. Some are more exp3nsive than what we have here... any comments?

I've been there, not that cheap also. if you live far away better dont go there.

To survive, they need to lower the price to attract more buyers...also...promote free transport to shop there or bus that can reach right infront of Giant TRan.

That is how big hypermarket did it. They also claim to be the lowest price to attract customers, but they also need the margin for their profit and survival. So how? the trick is to promote your daily essentials as the cheapest items to attract consumers. Most consumers are very aware of the price movements of daily essentials such as milk, rice, sugar, diapers, soaps and detergents, etc... so those items are regularly promoted to draw consumers into their stores. Sometimes, people are willing to travel the distance to the stores to buy these essentials. But once inside most consumers do not just buy those essentials, they will also buy impluse items such as snacks, fancy accessories, etc.. and they will also buy other items they may need but not to aware of the price movements such as shoes, pyjamas, tools, etc.. and thats where the store got their margin. Say you spend RM 60 on your essential items where the store only earn about 3-5% margin, and another RM 40 on impulse and other items where the store earn 20% - 25% margin, the average should have cover them quite well.
