City Public Link to introduce more buses
by Eve Sonary Heng
August 3, 2010, Tuesday

http://www.theborneopost.com/?p=54807

KUCHING: City Public Link Bus Service Sdn Bhd (City Public Link) aims to increase its public transport buses to a total of 113 units by next year.

This is to meet the increasing number of public transport users in the city, said director Michael Wong recently.

Currently, there are 26 air-conditioned buses on the road, covering almost all areas including rural places in the city, he said.

He added that the company will add another 24 buses in the next three months, all of which are air-conditioned with spacious seats.

“Next year, which is the second phase of the project, we will add 63 more buses on the road. So by next year, we will have a total of 113 buses serving the people. Our buses depart on time and we maintain our fixed price depending on users’ routes,” he said, adding the company provides insurance for passengers as well.

Meanwhile, he called upon the State government and relevant authorities to install roofs at the Saujana bus terminal to provide comfort for bus users.

He said currently, those waiting for buses had to wait under the hot sun and when it rained, they had to squeeze along the five foot way of the shops nearby.

“This sight is an eyesore to tourists and we also receive numerous complaints from tourists on why there is no proper bus stand facility there.

“That place (Saujana bus terminal) is where all the buses stop and depart and is always very crowded with passengers. So it is appropriate that there should be roofs and benches for waiting passengers,” he said.

As the government emphasises on 1Malaysia concept, he said the federal government should allocate more funds to the state to improve public transport infrastructure which is a basic necessity for the convenience of the public.

Clicked and saved, still can't see.

Good to see the routes are coming up, assuming these are supposed to be complementing the other 'bus hubs' at Kuching Central and Matang?
