The main reason is the deposit of gold underneath the town itself, they want the town to be relocated so they can mine the gold under it, so now gold prices is sky high again, the “white rajah ”will mention it again after the coming election. Or else we will sell another Chinese rebellion of 1857, aftr 15o years.

not only in bau..elsewhere in sarawak..people slowly moved away from their home,kampung etc etc..

what u see in bakun..what u see in malay kampung by sarawak riverbank,what u see in kampung in miri..all moved away because in the name of development

of course we cannoy stop the dev..

for bau cases..its not impossible..

like marudi town in upper baram...during the balak times..that place is more prosperous than miri ..the baram river is so happening that time

but now,there is land road and less people using the river because of there is alternative way going to miri.. but i'm not saying marudi also to be closed heheh

Don't forget that Bau town is near the Malaysia-Indonesia border. The road to Serikin is almost fully tar-sealed now and there is plan to develop the border-crossing to a full Immigration and Custom Control Unit (at the moment only those with the border pass can pass through from Serikin to Jagoi Babang). When that happen, ecomony trade will prosper beyond the "Sunday-market" type trading going on now at Serikin. There will be a spill-over effect on Bau town.

If there really is gold under the town, maybe they can use underground tunnel to each the deposit and hire cheap indonesian labour to do the job...we will soon see Bau prosper back to the good o'days
