Beware! RECYCLED Straws!

Has anyone noticed that many coffeeshops use recycled straws in their drinks? Here's how to tell:

1. Get 2 straws. If you are only ordering 1 drink, ask them for an extra straw.
2. Compare the height of the 2 straws; look at the ends of the straws.
3. NEW straws are machine cut in the factory; they are the same height and the ends are cut clean.
4. USED straws will not have the same length. If you put 2 straws side by side, they will have different lengths. The ends of the straw will have been cut off by hand; the cut will not be clean.

Personally I find this practice unhygenic and unethical, especially considering that straws are not exactly expensive. Please try the test for yourself and help to update the list below. If you have a cameraphone and can take a picture, that would be great!

List of coffeeshops using recycled straws:
1. Expert Corner (MJC)
2. Expert Corner (Song Road)
3. Siang Siang (Hui Sing)

yish.. thanks for sharing. I never knew that.
disgusting la. if someone with hypatitis B or something then ppl could get infected.

Report to whichever Ministry that concerns.

Well as for now, I wil start a practice of destroying the straw after use.

The 4 steps can only be applied if they happen to give u one new straw and 1 recycled straw. If you order 2 drinks and u get 2 recycled straw.....

Anyway, thanks for the advice...

I think it might still work...cos it's not likely for the recycle straw they can cut chun-chun the same...

It is good to take the precaution, but there are cheap straws you can buy in bulk that sometimes come uncut. (in about lengths of 2 feet which you cut yourself or cut at the seller unprofessionally)
