I've never fancied Will Smith as much of an actor but all that has changed after watching his latest major motion picture The Pursuit of Happyness, directed by Gabriele Muccino and released by Columbia Pictures on December 15, 2006.

Smith plays Christopher Gardner, a self-made millionaire, entrepreneur, motivational speaker and philanthropist who, during the early 1980s, struggled with homelessness while raising his toddler son, Christopher (played by Will Smith's real-life son, Jaden Smith).

Go see the movie and I'm sure you'll agree with me that this is Smith's best performance to date, definitely worthy of the Oscar nomination that he's earned for the role.

Well, my impression of him has definitely changed for the better after his performance in this film. Prior to that, I found him to be quite one-dimensional in his acting (eg. Bad Boys, MIB), even in his potrayal of the great Cassius Clay in Ali (which earned him his first Oscar nomination back in 2001).

I think this year's Oscar for Best Actor should either go to Smith or to Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond). It's a close call but I'm rooting for Smith to bag it!
