Anyone has any idea of the progress of the hospital. Floor area of 40,000 meter square, Cost of RM400million, state of the art cardiac centre, cancer centre and kidney centre. The photo was taken November 2006.

SIMC is located at Kota Samarahan. If you are travelling from the City, it is the left turn at the round about before UNIMAS new campus entrance. Why is the proivate hospital built inside the jungle? Maybe the green and the fresh air will help in recovery of the patients.

I remember reading somewhere that they plan to design the SIMC along the lines of Mayo Clinic in the States, a private institution for the super rich with super privacy. Considering Normah already takes in rich patients from Indonesia, Brunei and Philippines, and even the crappy Timberland gets its share of ASEAN patients, the SIMC would definitely want to compete with Singapore, Penang and Bangkok.

I wouldn't be surprised if cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery and LASIK surgery are done in the hospital. I had my LASIK surgery in KL, and I have to go up there for check-up. With this in Kuching, clients need to fly in for check up, which means more influx of people to the city.

When you locate it in the middle of the jungle, it creates a sense of privacy, privilege and an escape from the real world. And again, with the new Sarawak Club Golf Course next door, I'm pretty sure they'll be planning to turn this into a private retreat where rich patients can relax and unwind.

Plus, a few years back in the Borneo Post, I read that they have a tie-in with a private Vienna hospital, where they share not only expertise but also refer patients. Want to go Europe and shop as you go for surgery? Go Vienna. Want to run away from EU chaos? Recuperate in Kuching!

According to one of the Mat Salleh consultants the project is definitely behind schedule. Currently its estimated to be completed in December 2007, fingers crossed.
